Culture and art
Severstal has successfully worked in a number of rewarding collaborations
with Russia's leading museums and theatres over the years.
Here are some of the highlights of our charitable activities:
Museums
Severstal has been on the Board of Trustees of Tretyakov State Gallery since
2002. We back some of the most amazing exhibitions in the gallery every year.
For example, the gallery hosted “A. Deineka. Work, Build and not Whine!”, “The
Whole World is a Theater. Prints from F.M. Larionov's Collection” and “Russian
painter Boris Grigoriev” exhibitions in 2010-2011. Severstal has also been
supporting the Children's Arts Workshop Gallery on Krymsky Val since 2009.
Since 2004 Severstal has been working with the Russian Museum. Over this
time, we supported a number of exhibitions including “Nikolai Zagrekov. Return
to Russia”, “Marc Chagall”, “Mikhail Vrubel”, “Peasant World in Russian Art”
and “Way to Victory”. Our joint projects with the Russian Museum in
2010-2011 include “Anthem to Labor”, “Russian Advertising Banner”, “Saints of
Russian Land”, “A Trace of a Meteor” and “From Moscow to the country's
outskirts ...” exhibitions.
Severstal first partnered with Sergey Andriyaka's Watercolor School in 2004.
Since then, Severstal has been supporting School's exhibitions and master
classes in many regions of Russia. For example, in 2010-2011 saw more than 100
works of Sergey Andriyaka's Watercolor School teachers and students exhibited
in Vorkuta, Olenegorsk, Balakovo, Kaluga, Cherepovets and Oryol.
Theatre and Music
Our nearly decade-long partnership with the Bolshoi Theatre culminated our
backing of the 2011 premiere ballet performance of “The Nutcracker”. This
premiere was a symbolic event for Russian culture and international
theater.
We have worked with the Mariinsky Theatre since 2003 and supported many
events, including the famous “Moscow Easter Festival”.
In 2011 we have continued our support of the First International Festival of
Young European Cinema, “VOICES”, which was held in Vologda and Cherepovets for
the second time. The festival is rapidly becoming an important ground for young
independent European cinema and a major contribution to pan-European
culture.
Since 2006, Severstal supports the annual Golden Mask Theater Festival in
Riga, and from 2010, top performances from this festival are also brought to
Cherepovets.
In 2011 in Latvia with the sponsors’ support of Severstal was held the
concert of the National Philharmonic of Russia, directed by Vladimir Spivakov.
The programme devoted to the Day of Russia included Sergey Rachmaninov’s
“Concerto No. 1 for Piano and Orchestra” and “Symphonic Dances”.
Grant programme
We actively use competitive selection tools to qualify projects and expand
our collaboration with expert community and professional non-profit
organizations. The success of our Museums of Russian North program is a
meaningful example of our achievements. The purpose of this program was to
intensify activities of regional arts museums, to support their development
into cultural centers, and to use them as a foundation for the new social and
cultural environment in different regions of Russia.
In 2007, we announced a grant project competition among museums of 12
regions in the Russian Northwest with a total budget around RUR 9 million. Six
museums from the Vologda and Archangelsk Regions, the Komi Republic and the
Karelian Republic took the top prizes.
In 2011, the winners of the 2nd grant contest were five regional arts
museums of the Russian North:
- Municipal Cherepovets Museum Association with the "Virtual Cherepovets
Museum of Arts" project.
- State Museum of Novgorod Region "Artistic Culture with the Cultural
Heritage of Novgorod Monasteries" project.
- Arts Museum of Republic of Karelia with "Reflection of Eternity
project".
- Kizhi State Open-Air Museum of "Cultural History and Architecture with
ReAnimation. Museum Animation" project.
- National Gallery of Komi Republic with the "KRAYEVIDENIE" (Komi Republic as
Seen by Artists) project.
Contest winners received funding for their projects.
